I'd like to thank Maura from Folk Fibers for sharing her inspirations with the world in a recent blog post. This is how I happened upon Swans Island Company - a company that produces time-honored, handcrafted naturally dyed yarn and blankets. The history behind this company is interesting, as many are when it comes to companies that are built with passion and their processes are inline with nature.
As you may have gathered, the company name corresponds to its origin: an Island off the coast of Maine where wool is traditionally harvested and produced. John and Carolyn Grace, the founders of Swans Island Company, worked diligently to learn the craft of traditional weaving, dying, and working with nature's raw materials during each step of the process. Now located in Northport, ME to accommodate growth and a larger scale in house production, this blanket and textile company has an ever growing reputation for quality and continually reaches out to share their production process.
