MADE BY HAND is a side project of Bureau of Common Goods, a firm that creates similar portraits of clients, products, businesses, etc. through film and photography. It was out of the understanding that hand crafted goods are so much more than just the products being advertised on QVC at 3 a.m. that MADE BY HAND was born. When we purchase these products we are making careful investments funded by our individual passions, desires, and interests. I'll let the films speak for themselves, but one point comes across abundantly clear is that these products are an extension of their creator, created for an individual but routed in the communion of other like-minded human beings.
The above video is their latest work, The Bike Maker, that paints a portrait of Fastboy Cycles builder, Ezra Caldwell. This film seamlessly knits together the human elements of struggle, discipline, hard work, and reality in all its brutality and beauty. This is done through Ezra's stories of finding his passion and dealing with his diagnosis of cancer. Truly compelling; truly thought-provoking.
HomeGrown Goods wholly supports the efforts and work MADE BY HAND is putting forth and we hope you will too!
